Napachie (Napatchie) Sharky

Date of Birth: September 29, 1971
Residence: Cape Dorset
Medium: Serpentine
Napachie comes from a family of renowned carvers. His stepfather was prominent artist Shorty Killiktee from Kimmirut, and he learned to carve by watching Shorty carve on visits to Kimmirut. Napachie’s brother is Toonoo Sharky, one of the most popular contemporary Inuit artists working today.
Napachie mostly carves small-scale birdlife with great and realistic detail. He will use power tools but adds detail using hand tools, as it is otherwise difficult to create such thin and outstretched wings, an attribute he is best known for.
